World Latte Art Championship 2022

world of coffee milan 2022

The World Latte Art Championship 2022 has take place at the world of coffee in Milano.

The world of coffee is always an incredible venue to discover some of the newest trend, getting inspired by so many championship or simply to enjoying a tasty coffee or two.

As a Latte Artist myself, I paid special attention to the World Latte Art Championship.
The competitors, all national champions, had to prove themselves on the stage and showing the judges their best work. All this with coffee they don’t know and milk they only tested a couple times before. All are given the same conditions. They also have official Cups they use from Loveramics. The 300ml Latte cups and the 80ml Macchiato cups. This to create a competition with fair conditions for everyone.

In case you are not familiar with the official championship, I’ll guide you through them.
There are three rounds. The preliminary, the semi-final and the final.

In the first round they had to pour two free pour patterns (in the 300ml latte cups) they created in a set of two on stage within 8 minutes.
But they also had to complete the art bar, where they are given 5 minutes to create one amazing cup of latte, where they where allowed to do some etching as well.
Especially Rora’s from South Korea and Carmen’s from Italy caught my attention.

The best 12 from the preliminary where then allow to compete in the semi-final.
In the semi-final, the competitor had to show the judges on stage within 9 minutes 2 free pour patters ( in the 300ml latte cups) they created in a set of two in addition to 1 free pour pattern ( in the 80ml macchiato cup) also in a set of two.
Judged by creativity, contrast, harmony, two identical patterns as well as the technical side for preparing an espresso, the best six Latte Artists in the world made it into the finals.

In the final round they had to to show the judges on stage within 10 minutes 2 free pour patters ( in the 300ml latte cups) they created in a set of two in addition to 1 design pattern ( in the 300ml latte cup) also in a set of two.

And this year the best Latte Artist in the world comes from Italy!
Carmen Clemente is the World Latte Art Champion for 2022.
Make sure you check her out on instagram @carmen_clemente_official and view her presentation that made her a champion.

It was also really cool to see the Dario Pieber Milkpitcher use in the Championship.

Johannes Otto, the german latte art champion and Jesse Fook, the dutch latte art champion felt the Dario Pieber Milkpitcher was the best choice for this competition.

Johannes Otto even made it into the semi-finals!
Such a great achievement.

One competitor that inspired me the most in this championship even though he didn’t win, was Shao-Sing Lin from Taiwan.
He seemed so confident and in a state of flow in his performance that really struck me. And his patterns he showed the world are incredibly simple, but still very complex and difficult to pour. But best to just watch his presentation yourself. :)

If you ever get the chance to see the World Latte Art Championship I can only highly recommend it.
The whole community in one place, getting inspired by the best in the world and having a chat with so many like minded people is just exciting.

I really hope to see you at the next World Latte Art Championship 2023 in Tawan.
